Getting started

  1. Install Mint Downloads from the Shopify App Store. The app home shows a setup checklist.
  2. Upload your files on the Files page. Any file type, up to 5 GB each. Big files upload in parts; if an upload stops, choose the same file again and it continues.
  3. Choose products on the Products page (Add products). For each product pick the files every buyer gets, and optionally extra files for single variants. On Pro, pick a license key pool and a download limit / link expiry if the product needs its own.
  4. Add the Downloads block to the Thank you and Order status pages: Settings → Checkout → Customize → choose the Thank you page → Add app block → Downloads → Save. Then switch to the Order status page and do the same. The app home shows each page as "in use" once a buyer has seen it.
  5. Optional: add the Digital download note to your product page with Add product page block on the app home (or Online Store → Themes → Customize → product template → Add block → Apps).
  6. Review Settings: download email texts, what happens on refunds and cancellations, and on Pro your default download limit and link expiry.

How buyers get their files

  • Thank you page: the Downloads block shows the files and license keys as soon as the order is paid (orders paid later, like bank transfers, show them once payment is confirmed).
  • Order status page: the buyer can come back any time — signed in to their account, or from the "View your order" link in Shopify's order confirmation email. Links there are refreshed each visit.
  • Email: one email with a Download button per file and the license keys, sent in your store's name. Its buttons open a small page with a Download button, so email scanners that open links don't use up downloads.

The Thank you and Order status blocks work on every Shopify plan except Starter, and only show up for orders that contain a product with downloads.

Common questions

A buyer says they didn't get their files. Open the order in Orders. You can resend the email, or click Copy download links and send them yourself. If the download limit was reached, Reset count; if the link expired, set a new expiry. Tell them they can always find the files on their order status page.

How are downloads counted? Once per device (IP address and browser) per 6 hours, so pausing, resuming or a download manager fetching parts doesn't count again. Link previews in chat apps and search engines are refused without counting.

A link was shared publicly. Open the order and click Replace all links. Every older link stops working; the buyer gets fresh ones on their order status page (and you can resend the email).

I updated a file. Use Replace on the Files page. Buyers who already have the file get the new version through their existing link. To give past buyers a file you attached later, open their order and click Add newly attached files.

An old order wasn't delivered. Orders placed before a product was set up in the app aren't delivered automatically (so attaching a file never surprises past buyers). Use Deliver an order on the Orders page.

License keys ran out. Orders still get their files, and the missing keys are shown as "on the way". Import more keys into the pool: waiting orders get theirs straight away and are emailed again.

The app home says order notifications aren't connected. Shopify only sends order notifications to apps once their access to order data is approved. Until then orders are delivered from the buyer's Thank you / Order status page and by an hourly check, and the app retries automatically.

Download emails say "not sent". Email sending wasn't available at the time. Buyers still have their links on the order pages; resend the email from the order once the app home shows email is working.

Billing

Free includes 1 GB of storage, up to 5 products with downloads, delivery on the Thank you page, the Order status page and by email, and unlimited orders and downloads. Pro is billed through Shopify at $6.99/month after a 7-day free trial and adds 25 GB of storage, unlimited products, license keys and download limits / link expiry. No fees per order, download or GB. Cancel anytime from the app's Plans page or by uninstalling.

Privacy

See our privacy policy and security policy. In short: no customer names, emails or addresses are stored; the buyer's email is used only to send their download email.
